Step 3: Step by Step Installation of Server 2008

Start your computer with the boot from cd/dvd in your bios. Please the disk into its Drive

After system booting, the windows loads the files for the installation and it reboots.

Once it is rebooted the system loads to the desktop as shown below. Then open the command prompt from run-> cmd

Then type dcpromo for the active directory installation of windows server 2008

In the installation load window choose next for the further step for the installation to be continued. It also shows the advanced mode which we can see in future. The next screen prompts for the operating system compatability. It denotes about the previous version compatability.

Choose next for the further installation. The next for the deployment configuration. It provides an option install new active directory or to add to the existing forest. Since we are installing the

Fresh domain choose create a new domain new forest and next option.

Then we need to create the domain name for the network which is called Fully Qualified Domain Name(FQDN). For the installation guide we have used learn.supportitdesk.com as the name, the next option is to choose the fundamental level.

This choose the operating system functionality. I have choose windows 2000 native since I have to add some of the functionalists of windows network for the learning purpose and I also would like to suggest for this option which enables some the features that will be helpful for the configuration since you have already used windows 2003 server or even for the learners. The next is also for the domain controller options. By default DNS Server is enabled. This will also install the DNS server on this machine which will be helpful for the DNS server configuration in the domain network. We will also learn about the DNS stuff in the separate in DNS architecture.

Once next option is selected, for the first step it looks for the IP since we have choose DNS Server Installation. We have not yet configured the IP for this machine which will be in automatic ip from the network. As DNS server it takes the responsibility for the clients in the domain. We have to assign the IP in network settings which will be automatically prompted. I have assigned the IP in 192.168.10.X series which we choose for our Network.

After assigning the IP address it prompts for the conformation for the installation to be continued will the given settings as follows

After installation is refers the path for the database, log file and SYSVOL folder locations.

Later it prompts for the recovery password which will be useful in future for restoring or the changes to be made in the domain.

Choose the password for the restore and activity . Next it provides the summary information that we used in the previous installation steps.

Then at final stage the installation takes place and the Active Directory will be installed.

Hurray We have successfully installed Windows 2008 server and we have configured successfully Active Dirctory for our Domain Network.
